All About My Hair!

Posted on September 9, 2020September 5, 2020 by thebudgetdivaa

THE BIG CHOP HAPPENED! I have finally completed my hair journey after a year of transitioning. Now, I’m answering all the questions I’m sure everyone wants to know about my new, kinky, curly hair!

What made you do it? I think I was finally fed up with my hair. I wore my hair in a bun almost the entire time I transitioned & it was just not benefiting me anymore. What’s the point in holding onto your hair if it’s always up in a bun on your head? I also was noticing damage that was around my face where I would gel my hair back, so my hair wasn’t transitioning in a healthy way. That being said, I continued to wet my hair & regel it almost everyday so my hair wasn’t even detangled in the center. Needless to say, my busy lifestyle wasn’t cooperating with my hair! Transitioning hair needs time, nurture & care, which I just wasn’t able to provide to my hair anymore so it showed in how my hair was behaving. I washed my hair the other night before I went out & I wasn’t even able to comb through it easily with conditioner in it. I was so fed up that I came out of the shower & told my friends to grab the scissors because I’m over it. Prior to it had been a reoccuring thought in my mind that I should chop soon, so not being able to comb it was the final push to chop.

How do you like it?
I’m honestly in love! I was so scared to chop because I’ve never really had a short fro, but I like the way it compliments my face. Because of my constant manipulation to the front of my hair there’s actually a lot of damage there, so there’s a difference in my curls towards my face & on the nape of my neck. Although I’m going to baby my hair back to its original curl, I find that my hair’s so much more versatile now that it’s no longer holding on to those relaxed ends.

Would you transition again? Absolutely. For me, transitioning was me growing my hair out to a point that I was comfortable with & I absolutely achieved that in the year I let it grow. When I chopped my hair off it wasn’t a huge shock which I really liked as opposed to chopping it all off after a month or so of transitioning. Going through this transition for as long as I did was just perfect enough for me & my comfort level. It’s been said many times, but it’s all about what YOU are comfortable with, so if I had to do it all over again I would’ve transitioned just as long.

What’s your hair type? I’m still trying to figure out this one for myself! From what I can tell, it appears that my hair is a mixture of 3C & 4A, but since my front hair is damaged, I don’t know for sure. As it grows out, becomes rejuvenated & behaves to products, I’m sure I’ll be able to tell what hair texture I have! I think that products assist so much with seeing your hair type since they define those curls, but I haven’t found the right products for my hair just yet. Until then, my hair is type kinky, curly & I love it.
